Nanostructure Research on Functional Materials with Short Coherence Lengths at the TTF-VUV-FEL: This research center is a cooperation between the Institute of Applied Physics (IAP, Institut für Angewandte Physik) with its Microstructure Advanced Research Center Hamburg (MARCH, Hamburger Zentrum für Mikrostrukturforschung) at the University of Hamburg and the HASYLAB (Hamburger Synchrotronstrahlungslabor) at DESY. It is funded by the Helmholtz Association (HGF, Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft Deutscher Forschungszentren) via the President's Initiative and Networking Fund. The aim is to establish a novel VUV-Raman spectrometer at the VUV-FEL at HASYLAB/DESY and to demonstrate its capability. This spectrometer for inelastic light scattering will offer fascinating possibilities for research in physics, chemistry, biology, and medicine. For example, functional materials like high-temperature superconductors, systems with colossal magneto-resistance, glasses and bio-organic materials can be studied on shortest time and length scales.
