The next generation of high-energy collider experiments will test the understanding of the fundamental constituents of matter and its interactions with unprecedented luminosity and energy (as in case of the LHC) and precision (as in case for the ILC). The experimental conditions require the development of new techniques in identifying the new physics at different level, namely triggering new physics events, identifying them in the offline analysis, and identifying the theories and model parameters which describe the new physics best. Finally, the results and methods can be fed into the development of the ILC detectors in order to make sure they cover the full range of new physics phenomena with optimal precision. The aim of this project is to take part in the commissioning of the ATLAS High-Level Trigger, develop its monitoring and control systems and optimize its setup and algorithms for optimal identification of signal events. The signatures of new physics can then be searched for in the collected data, where a precise understanding of the trigger efficiencies is necessary. The Nachwuchsgruppe will initially work on the identification of specific final states predicted by Supersymmetric models with tau leptons in the final state. After new physics has been found, the Nachwuchsgruppe will focus on the identification of successful models of new physics and on parameter measurements using a broad range of results from LHC, flavor physics and other low-energy measurements sensitive to new physics. Finally, the Nachwuchsgruppe will work on optimizing ILC detector designs, using detailed physics simulations in scenarios preferred by the LHC results obtained in the previous steps.
