We will develop advanced ultrafast laser technologies for cutting-edge ultrafast spectroscopy of novel quantum materials. The time-resolved measurements of topological insulators, graphene, and high-temperature superconductors need novel ultrafast laser sources—for example, high-power femtosecond lasers in the wavelength range of mid-infrared and low noise ultrafast lasers at visible and ultraviolet range. The Helmholtz-CAS joint research group will employ ultrafast nonlinear optics and high-power fiber laser technology to implement a multi-wavelength laser platform, which allows us to discover interesting ultrafast dynamics and nonlinear optical properties of the quantum materials. As a reward, some of the quantum materials will be applied to develop novel ultrafast lasers (for example, a graphene laser). Together with our University partner, we will demonstrate a proof-of-concept application in investigating nanocrystals.
The Helmholtz-CAS joint research group consists of two Helmholtz groups (led by Professor Franz Kӓrtner and Dr. Guoqing Chang) from the Center for Free-Electron Laser Science, two CAS groups (led by Professor Jimin Zhao and Professor Lu Yu) from the Institute of Physics, CAS, and one university partner group (led by Professor Christian Betzel) from University of Hamburg.
