By establishing the strategic partnership PIER, DESY and Universität Hamburg have
founded a future-orientated co-operation in Hamburg Metropolitan Region. These
two strong partners are promoting training, research and innovation at a top level.
Tomorrow’s innovations originate from today’s clever ideas. PIER is aimed at qualified
young scientists, offering them stimulating surroundings. A key element in these
surroundings is the PIER Helmholtz Graduate School.
The PIER Helmholtz Graduate School forms the overall structure for an excellent PhD
training for candidates at DESY and Universität Hamburg. It integrates the strengths
of both partners regarding PhD training, identifies new challenges and offers innovative
ways to face these challenges. The PIER Helmholtz Graduate School raises
awareness and visibility of the top-quality PhD training in Hamburg both on a national
and international level. It is a magnet for the best junior scientist worldwide.
The Helmholtz Gemeinschaft promotes the attractive and forward-looking concept of
the PIER Graduate School. The Hamburg based Joachim Herz Foundation also supports
the PIER Helmholtz Graduate School by posting attractive grants for exceptionally
excellent PhD candidates.
